Gooding Death Notice: June Koonce

June Koonce PhotoJune C. Koonce, 82, a resident of Gooding, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at the North Canyon Medical Center in Gooding.

June was born on June 16, 1933 in Veradale, Washington to parents Hans W. And Ethel Viola Hoyt Vinge, joining a family of eight siblings.

June was raised in Veradale where she received her education.  Being of a practical nature, June took up the career of cooking.  In doing so she made many people happy as she perfected her skills.  June was born of a musical family and carried music in her soul and her fingers wherever she went.  Music was an incredibly important part of her life and everyone around her was blessed by June’s gift of music.  She was also a very talented artist, accomplishing many works of art over her lifetime.

June Vinge was united in marriage to Billy Warner Clements in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on the 3rd of September 1949.  Their union was blessed with two children, Ellen Colleen and Craig Warner.  During their marriage they moved to Colorado where they were both employed on ranches as cook and cowboy over the years until Billy’s passing.

June was then married to John “Paul” Koonce in Sparks, Nevada on November 20, 1971.  During their marriage they resided in Brighton, Colorado, San Jose, California and finally settling in Gooding, Idaho for the last 20 plus years.

Here in Gooding, June and Paul became an important part of the tight-knit community; June providing music for all celebrations and Paul being involved in a very active way with the Elks and with helping others in their daily lives. Both were faithful members of the United Methodist Church.

June was preceded in death by her parents, Hans and Ethel Vinge, her first husband, Billy Clements; four brothers and three sisters.

Surviving family members are: husband, Paul Koonce of Gooding; children, Ellen (Dustin) Shepherd of Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada and Craig (Rita) Clements of Caroline, Alberta, Canada and Paul’s children, Layne Hall of Logansport, Indiana and Robin Lakamt of Portland, Oregon; four grandchildren – Rebecca, Carol, Nicol and Ryan, 13 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff of North Canyon Medical Center and Dr. John Gies for the care and concern showed to June and Paul.

Donations can be made to the Gooding Senior Center in lieu of flowers.

A memorial service will be held at the Gooding United Methodist church onMonday, May 2, 2016 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Teresa Adams officiating. Services will conclude at the church.

Funeral and cremation arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service – Gooding Chapel.
